Supporting Canada’s Trail

The Trans Canada Trail is not just a trail. It's a 30,000-kilometre network that connects people and communities from coast to coast to coast.

I’m excited to join the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge to hike, bike, paddle or roll in support of the Trail.

From September 1 to 30, I’ll be logging my kilometres, contributing to the national goal of 100,000 kilometres in 30 days, while raising funds to help keep the Trail accessible, safe, and thriving — for everyone, now and for future generations.

You can sign up to participate, donate directly to my fundraising page, or share my campaign with your network to help spread the word.

Let’s be part of something great — together.

Saturday is Long Walk Day

Saturday 5th Sep
If you are going to take 8 hours on a lovely Saturday to walk 39km on the Galloping Goose, here is what you need to know:

-sometimes the weather is better than predicted
-there are so many doggos, especially when the weather is gorgeous
-watch out for path lizards, squirrels, and adorable birds
-your hips are going to ache; better bring Tylenol next time
-there are some absolutely gorgeous views
-you should definitely treat yourself to pizza after

I'm walking to raise funds for the Trans Canada Trail,  so if your flabbers have been gasted by this overweight bibliophile walking 39km in one day, and you have spare funds, please consider donated to the Great Canadian Hike: https://www.greatcanadianhike.ca/fundraisers/kathytrithardt

Day 1 - Away We Go!

Wednesday 2nd Sep
After work, I took a 10km walk on the trail to a cafe I adore (shout out to The Nest on the Galloping Goose), walked back into my city for a local trivia night, and then walked home for a total of 19km. Not a bad start!

Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park

Sunday 30th Aug
Today I thought I would just do a small walk, given yesterday's 32km effort. It ended up being 23km through Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park. I've been a couple times before, but had turned around before the bridge, erroneously thinking I'd gone as far as I was allowed (there are a lot of areas adjacent to the path that have no trespassing sings). After the bridge is about 800m of nothing but up hill, then a ton more gradual up hill. By that point I was nearly 3 hours from home, so I turned back - but maybe one day I'll plan to see what else was beyond that point.

Halfway There!

Thursday 27th Aug
Thanks to some very generous donors, I've made it to just over half of my fundraising goal before September arrives! Thanks to everyone for their support, and let's see just how much we can push those goals!

Mount Wells - Langford, BC

Friday 14th Aug
I'm excited for the Great Canadian Hike to start, so decided to try a new trail in my area. It was awesome! I got some amazing views. I'm looking forward to repeating this trek in September, as well as adding more section of the trail to my repertoire.

Get Out on the Trail!
